COMMON DENTAL PROBLEMS

If you detect any of the symptoms indicated below, we recommended you visit your dentist.

  • Sensation of cold and/or heat when chewing foods Thus usually occurs when a tooth has caries.
  • Reddening of the gums This may be the beginning of gingivitis.
  • Bleeding gums. This is an evolution of reddening.
  • Bad breath or halitosis.
  • Badly positioned teeth. This leads to incorrect mastication, difficulty when cleaning teeth, etc., which are harmful to oral health and favours an increase in caries, gum disease and on rare occasions can cause speech impediments and disorders in the development of the maxillary, in addition to negatively affecting the person's looks. Is the case of dental crowding, prognathism (lower teeth more prominent than the upper teeth), etc. This is generally corrected with orthodontics.
  • Pain. This can be caused by a problem in a tooth (caries), gum problems, etc.
  • Teeth that move This is usually due to gum problems.
  • Breakage of part of a tooth. As a consequence of having chewed something hard. This is the case of nut shells.
  • Loss of a tooth due to being struck In this case, we recommend you place the tooth under your tongue and go directly to your dentist. The tooth may be saved.
  • Teeth with grey tones They can be treated with dental whitening.
  • Worn teeth This is very common in stressed people who clench their teeth (this is called “bruxism”). These processes that can be controlled during the day cannot be controlled during the night. On rare occasions it can cause bad headaches. To avoid this destructive process there are devices called “dental guards”, consisting of special plastic guards that your dentist adapts to your teeth that eliminates the pressure, especially at night, stopping the wear process and curing other problems such as headaches, etc.
  • Caries. Tooth damage caused by the accumulation of bacteria (dental plaque). It is corrected through repair. This is called obturation
  • Gingivitis. Reddening of the gums caused by the bacteria in the mouth and food remains. It is usually caused when the teeth are not properly cleaned. The gums appear red and sometimes inflamed. This disease can evolve, cause bleeding and become chronic, creating pockets, loose teeth and loss of bone
  • Periodontitis. This is what gingivitis leads to if it is not treated. The periodontium is the tissue that holds the teeth. It consists of the gums, the alveolar bone, the cementum and the periodontal ligament. This disease usually evolves quickly and leads to tooth loss.
