Dentistry and oral surgery - Post operative

Eduardo Anitua Clinic

POST-OPERATIVE

For the bone to heal quickly and correctly around the implants it is essential to follow these instructions for the first two weeks after the surgery..

  • During the first six days after the surgery, follow a very soft or liquid diet (purees, omelettes, crème caramel, yogurts, ice cream,…), to avoid food hitting the wound.
  • Do not drink alcohol, do sport or smoke.
  • Take the medication we have indicated. Otherwise, you must report this to us.
  • The first two nights it is a good idea to use an extra pillow to raise your head and prevent possible swelling. Never apply heat to the affected area, rest your face on your hand,…
  • If we have indicated you do so, use the ice pack intermittently (5 min on – 5 min off) for the prescribed time..
  • The wound may bleed slightly. If this is the case, place a sterile roll of gauze on it, applying pressure for 15 – 30 minutes. If it is still bleeding after applying the gauze, contact us.
  • After each meal, rinse your mouth out with saline solution or saltwater. Do not use oral antiseptics or mouthwash in the first 48 hours. Two days after the operation, you must rinse with a mouthwash containing chlorhexidine.
  • If you experience any pain or mild discomfort, take the medications indicated.
  • It is advisable to apply moisturiser to your face and lip balm.

It is very important you follow all the instructions your doctor gives you. The end result will largely depend on this care and your collaboration.
